Paul Kruger Statue will remain at Church Square

Die Vryburger

Major changes are planned for Church Square in Pretoria and renovations are about to start and will continue until about October.

Among the changes planned are the planting of new trees, lawns will be refurbished and street benches adapting to modern landscaping will be installed. During the renovations, some streets will be closed to motorists and pedestrians, and parking will not be available in some places.

After the completion of the project, a part of Paul Kruger Street will no longer be accessible to motorists, with the exception of the rapid bus route, and emergency service vehicles.

From mid-October, all vehicles will no longer be allowed around Church Square, including the adjacent Mutual, Parliament, and Palace Street or Bank Avenue.

Tour guides, however, remain concerned about the safety of tourists at Church Square, especially as they now have to park far away and therefore must walk toward the square.
