About 2 000 inhabitants came outside the Kagiso police station to protest against conditions in the neighborhood with specific reference to drugs, crime and human trafficking.

The police made use of rubber bullets to control the crowd.

The usual burning tires and trash blocked streets while the police were accused of conspiracy with drug gangs.

In nearby Munsieville, protesters attempted to burn down the police station. The central business area of Krugersdorp was closed down for fears of looting.

Meanwhile, several houses have been burnt down  of foreigners who are believed to be  drug holes.

Mr. Jaco Mulder, FF Plus leader for Gauteng, said public violence against drug trafficking was the result of years of poor policing.

“The police in Krugersdorp have already failed to act on drug dealers operating in the central business district for many years now.

“The FF Plus requests the Gauteng police commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange and the MEC for community safety, Mr. Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, to intervene immediately because the local police have failed clearly in his police mandate, “Mulder said.
