One suspect was fatally wounded, and three unlicensed firearms, loaded with ammunition, were recovered during a shootout between the police and the suspects in Rabieridge, Ekurhuleni District, on Tuesday, 07 November 2023.
Police received information about the whereabouts of suspects who were wanted for cases of armed robberies in Ekurhuleni. Information was operationalised, and police proceeded to a house in Phomolong, Rabieridge, where the suspects were hiding.
As police were entering the house, the suspects started to shoot at them, and a shootout ensued. Police officers from the Tactical Response Team gave backup as the shootout continued.
As a result, one suspect was fatally wounded while the others fled. Police recovered three unlicensed firearms, six magazines, and more than ninety rounds of ammunition inside the house.
The recovered firearms will be taken for ballistic testing to determine if they were not used in the commission of other crimes. The search for the suspects who fled is underway.
