At 21:39 on Wednesday 12 February 2020, night Netcare 911 responded to reports of a train crash near the Horison View train station in Roodepoort West of Johannesburg.

Reports from the scene indicate that a passenger train crashed into a goods train resulting in a derailment.

Medics assessed the scene and found that one person had sadly sustained fatal injuries and was sadly declared deceased on the scene.

One person, an adult female had sustained critical injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise her before the Netcare 1 Specialised Helicopter Air Ambulance airlifted her to a specialist hospital.

Two other patients had sustained minor injuries and were treated on scene before being transported by ambulance to hospital for further assessment.

Multiple other occupants who were on board the train when the incident occurred were assessed however declined ambulance transportation to hospital.

Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
