Two hijacking suspects were involved in a shootout with members from a tracking company on Tuesday, 31 January 2017 at approximately 15:30. One suspect was fatally wounded while the other suspect sustained injuries.

Police recovered two AK47 rifles and a pistol that were allegedly used by the suspects.

Members from a tracking company were following a signal of a Hyundai H1 that was allegedly hijacked in Mayfair earlier on Tuesday. The vehicle was spotted at Kew, with two occupants inside.

It is alleged that members stopped the car but the suspects shot at the members who retaliated.

One suspect was fatally wounded and the other one got injured during the shootout.

The injured suspect was taken to hospital under police guard. Members from tracking company did not sustain any injuries.

A case of possession of suspected hijacked vehicle, attempted murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition has been opened for investigation.
