The brave and swift response by an off-duty police officer led to the arrest of a hijacking suspect.
The police officer was driving home from work when he noticed a hijacking incident unfolding just in front of him.

The police officer did not hesitate to respond to the call of duty, regardless of him being off-duty.

It is alleged that the 54-year-old victim had stopped at the red traffic light in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, when he was accosted by an armed suspect who forcefully pulled him out of his vehicle at gunpoint.

The police officer who witnessed the incident immediately intervened and shot the suspect on the lower body as he was trying to speed-off in the victim’s car.

The suspect was taken to hospital under police guard. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition used in the commission of crime.

A case of attempted hijacking as well as possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition has been opened for investigation.
