It appears as though the Hawks have uncovered a nest of corruption at the Johannesburg licensing department.
Yesterday, six officials were arrested for alleged fraud and corruption. The offenders appeared in court and released on bail of R5000 each.
The officials are aged between 28 and 53 years.
So far, 14 officers have been arrested and more arrests are expected.
They are accused of removing traffic fines off the system so that applicants could renew their driver’s licenses and license disks, but of course at a personal fee.
