N14 highway shooting leaves 3 injured

Three men were injured on Thursday morning after a shooting incident on the N14 highway near the Petroport, north of Johannesburg, ER24 said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with another services, arrived on the scene and found a heavy SAPS presence, with traffic heavily affected.

Meiring said they found a bakkie in the veld a short distance away from the road, with three men lying a further few metres away.

“On inspection, paramedics found that three men had sustained numerous gunshot wounds, leaving two of them in a critical condition while the third with moderate injuries,” Meiring said.

“Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patient with advanced life support.”

Meiring said all three patients were transported to Leratong Hospital for urgent treatment.

The details surrounding the shooting were not yet known but local authorities were on the scene to investigate further.

SAPS spokesman Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo referred queries to Gauteng provincial police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, who did not answer his phone despite numerous attempts to contact him.
