Management of police in Gauteng have condemned in the strongest of terms, incidents of looting, violence and general lawlessness which have spread to some parts of Soweto since Wednesday morning, 29 August 2018.

Police have to this end arrested at least fifteen suspects including two suspects for murder after one victim was fatally shot and another one was stabbed. A third victim is in hospital with gunshot wounds.

More arrests can be expected as police embark on operations to apprehend those responsible for perpetuating lawlessness, and also to retrieve the stolen property.

Police have intensified deployments and will remain on the ground monitoring the situation closely to ensure that law and order is maintained.

Members of the public are encouraged to seek lawful means to engage or address issues of public interest. Any acts of violence will not be tolerated.

Furthermore, people who may have witnessed these incidents are urged to report to police by calling the Crime Stop 08600 10111 or reporting to the nearest police station.
