Residents of Diepsloot blocked major routes on the N14 and R511 due to the lack of electricity in the informal squatter camp.

Meanwhile, power is stolen daily in almost every black residential area through illegal links from power stations.

Eskom, as well as local authorities and police, simply do not oppose the theft as the community is threatening law enforcement workers’ lives when they move into the densely populated neighborhoods.

Observers say it is clear that the ANC government has lost control over its supporters who were encouraged a few years ago to do what they want.
