Model agency boss rape and sexual assault trial postponed
Head of Detective and station commander sentenced

The High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Wednesday postponed the trial of former model agency boss Dawie de Villiers, who faces charges of rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, sexual grooming, possession of child porn and fraud.

Presiding Judge Cassim Moosa said Wednesday had been set down as a provisional date to determine whether the issues De Villiers’s defence team raised had been resolved as well as to set a date for the submission of their heads of arguments.

De Villiers’s trial was set to proceed with arguments in July, but his council was not ready to present their heads of argument.

State prosecuter Arveena Persad said De Villiers’s defence team had informed him that they would be ready to submit their heads of argument in September.

As a result Judge Moosa postponed the matter and extended De Villiers’s bail. The judge ordered the defence council to submit their heads of argument by 20 September.

The matter will resume on 27 September.
