Mob justice case: Bedfordview police station comes under attack

Police in Bedfordview have taken a 30 year old suspect into custody on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm following an incident of where members of an informal settlement in Elandsfontein took the law into their own hands and assaulted a man whom they accused of theft of copper cables on the night of 8 July 2019.

This arrest comes after 14 people were also arrested in Themba at Hammanskraal for acts of mob justice where a murder suspect was killed on Sunday 7 July 2019.

Police warn members of the public who engage themselves in serious and violent crimes by taking the law into their own hands that perpetrators will face the full might of the law.

A case of public violence has also been opened after the community of the same informal settlement went to the Bedfordview police station to demand the release of a person arrested for mob justice. They blocked the entrance to the police station and police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse them in the early hours of this morning.

More people including those who marched to the police station may be arrested as the victim may point out more people who assaulted him.
