The Marievale Military Base near Springs has 73 illegal families on the land, already since 2009.
After the families were removed, Human Rights Attorneys dragged the SANDF to the Pretoria High Court saying that the army could not expel the squatters. The judge also criticized the SANDF asking how they allowed a military base with a security fence and access control to degrade in a civilian neighborhood.
Meanwhile, it appears that the military base in Heidelberg (TVL) is also declining and there are no funds to restore the base.
