Midrand protest hamper paramedics

On 15 June 2017, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to reports of a serious incident involving a downed biker on Allandale road next to the N1 on/off-ramps in Midrand.

Due to protest action which resulted in road closures and significant traffic congestion paramedics in response cars were not able to access the scene and had to park their vehicles, carry their equipment and walk to the victim.

Reports from the scene indicate that the biker may have crashed into rocks that were blocking the road. The 44 year old man was in a critical condition, he was attended to by Advanced Life Support paramedics and was placed on a ventilator at the scene.

Ambulances were unable to access the scene due to the congestion in the area and the Netcare 911 specialised air ambulance was activated. The victim was then airlifted to an awaiting specialised trauma centre for the urgent care that he required.

The JMPD also attended the incident.
