The mayor of the Emfuleni municipality is under fire over alleged excessive spending.
Simon Mofokeng apparently stayed in expensive hotels and also submitted false financial statements to the provincial legislature.
He seemingly spent R300 000 for one night in the hotel, but his defense is that the R300 000 spent was over a period of one year, when he attends workshops at hotels.
There are also unexplained cash withdrawals ranging from R15 000 to R30 000 per month.
Opposition parties are demanding his head as mayor, but he denied all allegations against him.
