Massive land claim affects the South of Johannesburg

The Department of Rural Development and Land Reform yesterday gave notice in terms of section 11(1) of the Restitution of land Rights Act of a massive claim for land restitution by the Bakwena Ba Mare a Phogole Tribe which claim affects many land owners in the south of Johannesburg. Properties from as far a field as Hartzenbergfontein (Walkerville) to Rietvlei, Aspen Hills Development company, Reading Golf Course, Thaba Ya Batswana, to name a few are affected.

Land owners are urged to see if their properties are affected. Affected parties have 60 days in which to make representations or provide information that can assist the Land Claims Commissioner in approving compliance or non-compliance of this claim in terms of the Land Rights Act, 1994. Owners who fail to make representations or submit information within this period run the risk that the investigation and process continues to completion without their input.
