Manhunt for killers who shot police officer in Diepsloot

Police said on Wednesday they had launched a manhunt four four armed suspects after a policeman was shot dead in Diepsloot.

“Police have launched a manhunt for a group of four suspects (men) who shot and killed a 31-year-old police Constable who was with his colleague and robbed them of their firearms before fleeing from the scene on foot,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, police spokesperson for Gauteng Province.

Dlamini said police were appealing to members the community to assist with information. Information may be forwarded to the Crime Stop at 08600 10111.

“Any information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of these suspects may be rewarded.”

The fatal shooting happened on Tuesday night after 20:00 in Diepsloot when the two police officers, stationed there, were changing a tyre. Dlamini said they were confronted by four suspects.

“The suspects fired shots and one policeman was shot in the upper body and died on his way to the hospital. The suspects then robbed them of their firearms before fleeing the scene on foot. The other police officer was not hurt. The officers were on duty when they were attacked,” said Dlamini.

“A police team including Crime Intelligence, officers from the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigation (The Hawks) and Provincial tracking team have been mobilised to hunt these ruthless criminals.”
