Police are searching for three armed suspects after the sergeant who is the protector of the MEC was hijacked while waiting for the MEC in an official vehicle on Saturday, 2 June 2018, at approximately 13:00.

It is alleged that three armed men accosted the police officer and pointed him with firearms demanding the car keys. The suspects then drove with the police officer until they dropped him off at Bosmont in Sophiatown. The officer did not sustain any injuries.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and a lookout for a grey Mercedes Benz ML 500.

The suspects are said to be driving a white VW Jetta.

Police are appealing to anyone who has information that can assist in the arrest of the suspects or has seen the hijacked vehicle to please call the nearest police station or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
