A police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst told Maroela media that a man was shot dead on a smallholding in Hillside near Randfontein on the West Rand. The attack took place between 23:00 on Tuesday evening and 04:15 on Wednesday morning, 23 May 2018.
“Two men were asleep in their home when one was awakened by a noise, he woke the other man and he then chased after the suspects who were fleeing the scene. The man in the house then heard a gunshot and on investigation found the first man with a gunshot wound to the head.” Explained Ernst.
The man(23) was rushed to hospital but died before he could be airlifted to another hospital. The other man is severely traumatised by the incident.
On further investigation it was established that the home was broken into while the men were asleep and a TV and cell phones were stolen. The suspects gained entrance through a window.
Police are investigating and there are no arrests as yet.
