Man kills partner, wounds her uncle, Soweto

Police arrested a 42 year old man for allegedly killing his 39 year old partner in Soweto.

Police received information that a woman was shot in Mofolo, Soweto, today at approximately 7:30. Upon arrival at the scene, police found the woman with bullet wounds lying on the ground. She was later certified dead by the paramedics.

A man who was with the deceased, who was described as her uncle, was also shot in the leg, allegedly by the same suspect.

Police immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect. The search led to Emdeni in Soweto where the suspect who is the partner of the deceased was arrested. The suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm believed to have been used during the commission of the crime.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.

The suspect has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear at Protea Magistrate’s Court soon.

Police continue to ensure that those who commit crimes against women and children are hunted down and brought to book.
