One man has been killed and two others injured yesterday afternoon when a light motor vehicle slammed into a tree on Columbine Road in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 14h00. A light motor vehicle was found almost completely wrapped around a tree. One man a few feet away while two other men, both in their 20s, were found trapped inside the vehicle.

Paramedics quickly went to work, carefully extricating both men, who were found to be in a critical condition.

Once freed, paramedics treated both men and provided them with advanced life support interventions.

Unfortunately, after a short time, one of the men succumbed to his injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.

The man found lying outside the vehicle was assessed and found to have sustained moderate injuries. Once treated, both men were transported to Baragwanath Hospital for further treatment.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle. This caused the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a pedestrian and finally come to a stop against the tree.

Local authorities will be conducting an investigation into this collision.
