The collaboration between police and community led to the arrest of a suspect found with suspected stolen goods that include 20 plasma television sets, laptop and business breaking implements in Johannesburg on Saturday 9 January 2021.

Police received information about the suspect that was transporting stolen goods. The information was operationalised and police intercepted the suspect in Bertrams, Johannesburg. Upon searching the car police found brand new plasma television sets still sealed in the boxes suspected to be stolen and business breaking implements.

The suspect offered the police R2000 in order to be released. A charge of bribery was added on possession of suspected stolen goods.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela welcomed the arrest and applauded the community who raised the alarm, not keeping quiet, confirming that crime will not be committed under their watch. General Mawela also commended the police officers who acted swiftly after receiving the information.

The suspect is expected to appear at Jeppe Magistrate Court on Monday, 11 January 2021.
