Police arrested a 24 year old male suspect for business robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the corners of Delvers and Albertina Sisulu Streets on 7 December 2019 at 15:00.

It is alleged that four suspects robbed Lotto Wholesalers at corners of Jeppe and Delvers Street. The suspects entered the shop pretending to be customers where one of them asked for the price of denim trousers. One of the suspects pointed the cashier with a firearm who was forced to lie down. The suspects then took an undisclosed amount of cash from the till and two cell phones before they fled the scene.

Community members stopped a police vehicle that was patrolling in the area and alerted them. When the suspects saw a police vehicle they started to run away in different directions. The police members gave chase and apprehended one suspect and managed to recover a firearm with no serial number and live rounds of ammunition.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes. Investigation is underway and the suspect is appearing today in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

The Johannesburg District Commander, Major General Masha commended good crime fighting efforts between the police and the community. Working together will turn the tide against crime. He further encouraged the community to keep on working with the police by providing tip-offs about any suspicious or criminal activities in their communities.
