Load shedding and unannounced power outages paralyse Ekurhuleni

The FF Plus has requested the Ekurhuleni Metro Councils’ Department of Energy to urgently provide clarity on the unannounced power outages that, compounded by load shedding, are paralysing the Metro.

Power outages that are not part of Eskom’s load shedding schedule have been occurring unannounced in various Ekurhuleni Metro areas since Monday 31 May 2021.

These power outages, which last longer than the scheduled load shedding, spread to even more areas in the Metro on 2 June 2021.

Various enquiries about the matter were made to Ekurhuleni Mayor, Mzwandile Masina, but no explanation was given and no announcements or notifications have been sent out to residents either.

The lack of communication between the national power supplier (Eskom), the Metro Council and residents is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, the party has approached the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Lebogang Maile, and requested him to investigate the matter so that residents can be informed.

The FF Plus’s office has been inundated with queries from residents who want to know how long these outages will last and what the reasons for the outages are.

It is clear that the ANC-controlled Metro Council does not put the interests of residents first. In the upcoming local government elections, residents must stand up with the FF Plus to send a loud and clear message: Incompetence is unacceptable.
