At 10:44 Sunday morning, 23 June 2019, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a lift that had failed rapidly ascending slamming into the roof at a block of flats in Doornfontein, Central Johannesburg.
Paramedics assessed the scene and found that an adult female approximately 40 years old had sustained severe head injuries and despite best of all on scene her condition rapidly deteriorated and she succumbed to her injuries.
Another occupant in the lift, an adult male managed to escape.
The patient was assessed on scene and once stabilised was transported by ambulance to hospital for further treatment.
Circumstances leading up to the lift failure will be investigated by the relevant authorities.
