The two licensing offices in Waltloo and Centurion suffered from burglaries to such an extent that the department will only issue student licenses from 6 June.

Equipment stolen include eye and thumbprint equipment, eNatis computers, and income information of management equipment.

The fear is that the stolen equipment can be used to generate fake driver licenses.

The Mayor of Pretoria, Solly Msimanga, is apparently “furious” about burglaries.

These burglaries follow shortly on the heels of the burglary at the Hawks office. There is a suspicion that organized gangs can be responsible for these burglaries, with the assistance of the institutions concerned.
