Concerted efforts to fight corruption within the Police Service has yielded positive results when a police captain was arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team for corruption on Tuesday, 16 May 2023.

The Hawks promptly acted on information about a commissioned officer stationed at Krugersdorp allegedly demanding money in exchange for not arresting a person who reportedly committed tax-related fraud.

A waylay investigation was executed in Fordsburg where the suspect collected the money and fled the scene.

The suspect was chased and arrested along Albertina Sisulu Street in Fordsburg.

He will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 18 May 2023.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa applauded the team for their swift response. “We are sending a stern warning to corrupt officials, criminal activities within our ranks cannot be tolerated”, said General Kadwa.
