GAUTENG — A targeted Khutsong settlement raid resulted in the confiscation of a significant explosives cache and the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect by SAPS on Friday, 03 July 2026.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) Public Order Policing (POP) West Rand unit initiated the operation after receiving actionable intelligence. Officers tracked the tip to a specific location within the Majimbos Squatter Camp.

Upon reaching the targeted structure, law enforcement officials asked for consent to conduct a search of the premises. The occupants granted the necessary permission, allowing the officers to proceed with the inspection.

The subsequent sweep of the property yielded multiple hazardous materials. Police successfully recovered 40 blasting cartridges alongside 25 shock tubes. Additionally, officers secured an undisclosed quantity of suspected mercury during the premises search.

In light of the recovered materials, the 26-year-old suspect was taken into immediate custody. The individual was formally arrested for the possession of explosives, and SAPS continues to process the seized items as part of the ongoing investigation.
