Police on Tuesday evening, 15 December 2020, operationalised information about a possible shipment of suspected drugs to Greece and activated the K9 unit, upon which Buddy, the sniffer dog, reacted positively.

The members intercepted two suspects who had earlier arrived at a logistics company in Johannesburg to source a quotation for shipping a parcel to Greece. Police intercepted the woman and a man and within a short space of time, Buddy was able to locate the drugs. The parcel indeed contained 10 clothing garments with drugs concealed in the fitted accessories.

An immediate on-site inspection found that the suspected heroin was worth an estimated street value of about R1.4 million. The two suspects were arrested and charged with possession of drugs.

In a separate incident, police pounced on a house that was suspected to be harbouring drug dealers in Alexandra. The members arrested one suspect after he was found in possession of more than 69 rolls of dagga and more than 48 packets of heroin.

In another incident in Yeoville, a search is underway for suspects who upon noticing the police, allegedly ran away and abandoned over 24 pieces of suspected cocaine rocks whose value is yet to be determined.

The arrested suspects will appear at different Magistrate Courts in due course.

Gauteng Commissioner of police has commended the tireless efforts by members of the SAPS working closely with other law enforcement agencies and the community, in the strife to curb the proliferation of drugs.

Members of the public are encouraged to continue providing valuable information to the police in relation to suspicious activities and persons.
