In an intelligence-driven operation, members from SAPS Counter Intelligence Head Office, SAPS Gauteng TRT, SAPS Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, SAPS Airwing (PTA), DPCI Gauteng Tracking Team, CAP Specialised Operations, Gemini Global Defense, Tracker Connect, and the SBV Investigation Department acted on information regarding suspects involved in cash-in-transit (CIT) robberies and other violent crimes.
The multidisciplinary team was deployed after receiving intelligence that the suspects were planning to commit a robbery between Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Two (2) suspect vehicles were spotted traveling on the R25 from Bronkhorstspruit towards Bapsfontein. When officers attempted to stop the vehicles, a shootout ensued.
The Fiat vehicle was contained, resulting in three (3) suspects fatally wounded. Unlicensed firearms were recovered at the scene.
The Toyota Corolla fled at high speed, leading to another exchange of gunfire a few kilometers away. One (1) suspect was fatally wounded, while one (1) managed to evade arrest. Additional unlicensed firearms, ammunition, and other exhibits were recovered.
The team also identified a safe house in Dennilton, Limpopo, which was raided. One (1) suspect was arrested, and a Mercedes-Benz sought in connection with an Ekangala case was recovered.
Further intelligence has confirmed that the suspects are linked to multiple CIT robberies committed in Gauteng, including the CIT in Tembisa and the attempted CIT in Daveyton, Kingsway.
