A coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies led to a fatal confrontation with suspects in the Nina Park area on. The operation, which included PTA North SAPS, Akasia SAPS, Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (Northern Corridor), Tshenolo P.I, BBS Security, Tshwane District Crime Intelligence, SAPS Organised Crime, DPCI Hawks, SAPS Highway Patrol, and SAPS Flying Squad, was launched following intelligence about a suspicious vehicle flagged by PTA North SAPS.
Upon locating the vehicle, officers approached, prompting the occupants to flee into nearby bushes. A pursuit ensued, during which suspects opened fire on law enforcement members. Officers returned fire, resulting in one suspect being fatally wounded. A second suspect was apprehended and linked to a theft out of motor vehicle case reported in the Hercules Policing Precinct.
Authorities recovered a firearm at the scene, which will undergo ballistic testing to determine possible links to other crimes.
Gauteng police praised the collaborative effort, reiterating their commitment to dismantling criminal networks. “This operation underscores our zero-tolerance approach to violent crime. We will continue deploying all necessary resources to ensure community safety,” said a spokesperson.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon, while investigations remain ongoing.
