The Ivory Park station management has welcomed another lengthy sentence handed to an Ivory Park man for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Lucky Cossam Dumani, 35, was found guilty by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court last week and was sentenced to an effective 10 years in jail for the attempted murder of his girlfriend in December last year. Dumani visited the ex-girlfriend, apparently to borrow money, but it turned out that the visit was laced with some ulterior motives. The two ended up in an argument after which he left, only to come back later with a schoolbag carrying an axe. He assaulted the victim and took out axe and assaulted her on the head about three times.

Dumani, who has been in jail since he was arrested at the end of January this year, was denied bail as he was in the country illegally.

“Domestic violence related crimes are too much in our country and we believe that this arrest will clear send a message to Dumani and his like that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable and that my officers are prepared to go all out to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book,” said Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS.

The station commander has further commended the investigating officer involved as he only has been in the investigating field for just a year. “With such dedicated young and committed colleagues, the future of detection looks bright,” Brigadier Ngcobo added.

The Station Commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has welcomed the conviction and subsequent sentencing of an Ivory Park man for the fatal shooting of his colleague in 2016.
