Opinion polls conducted by the media indicate that the ruling ANC could lose the Gauteng province. The poll apparently shows that the ANC lost about 7.4% of its support across the country, predicting that it could lose the Gauteng province.
There is also the view that the ANC can lose its majority in parliament, which is much quicker than political analysts expected.
Analysts say the possibility is not ruled out that South Africa could get a coalition government, which will lead to much greater chaos than is currently experienced.
The latest poll by the Institute for Racial Relations is widely regarded as fairly reliable, but the more conservative white voters say the polls are not reliable and are rejected.
