Houtpoort farm murder, alert officer assists in arrest of two attackers

The prompt action of an alert officer at a weighbridge near Heidelberg, Gauteng, which saw people acting suspiciously, probably contributed to the arrest of two men involved in the murder of a farmer in the area.

This was after an elderly man was robbed and shot dead early on Wednesday morning, 3 October 2018, at his home in Houtpoort outside Heidelberg.

A gang of probably five attackers broke into the house at midnight, wounded the man in the chest and fled his car and household goods. The swift action of the official and police led to two suspects arrested a few hours later in Ratanda.

Firearms, and the goods robbed during the attack and murder of the farmer, were found in their possession.

Mrs. Mari Boshoff, FF Plus councilor in the Lesedi Local Municipality (Heidelberg) said it is a pity that the safety of farmers in particular is so low on the priority list of the ANC government and the FF Plus appeals to all South Africans to do their utmost to protect themselves and their property.

“In this case, the FF Plus wishes to express its gratitude to the official and the police for their prompt action after the attack.”
