The collaboration between the police, security guards and the community led to the arrest of two suspects on the morning of 29 April 2019, following a house breaking in Beyerspark, Boksburg North. Police also recovered two unlicensed firearms, ammunition and stolen vehicle.

It is alleged that the two suspects broke and entered the house when they were noticed by neighbours who alerted the owner.

The owner who was at work at the time rushed home only to find an unknown vehicle parked inside his yard. Two suspects came out of the house and started shooting at him. The security guards who were around the area responded to the shooting while calling for police backup.

During the shootout, one suspect was wounded and rushed to hospital under police guard while the other was arrested a few blocks away from the scene.

Two unlicensed firearms and ammunition plus the vehicle used by the suspects were recovered by the police at the scene. It is also alleged that these two suspects attempted to hijack another vehicle while fleeing.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle used by the suspects was stolen during a house breaking in Sinoville earlier this month.

The duo will face charges ranging from attempted murder, attempted hijacking, housebreaking, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police investigation is continuing to establish if these suspects are linked to other crimes.
