Police in Duduza arrested two males and two females for possession of unlicensed firearms. This was after a number of house robberies that took place around Duduza over the weekend of 5 August 2018.
In a house robbery that occurred on Monday, 6 August 2018 in Mayaba street in Duduza where unknown males wearing balaclavas came into a house and pointed the owner and his wife with firearms and robbed him of cash and electrical appliances including a television and cell phones.
The suspects were reportedly speaking Zulu and they fled in a Toyota Avanza.
There was another case of murder reported a few minutes after the robbery in Masechaba, Duduza where the males with the same description were reported to have shot and killed a victim after they have forced entry into his house and demanded cash.
A scuffle broke out and the three males shot the owner several times and he died on the scene.
The Trio Task Team made a breakthrough after intense investigation and managed the arrests. The two females were in possession of two unlicensed firearms which are suspected to have been used in the commission of the crimes. The two male suspects were linked with the robberies as they were found in possession of items stolen during the house robberies.
The arrests come after the launch of the Buya Mthetho campaign on 2 August 2018 which was launched by the Police Minister, Mr Bheki Cele where he vowed that police will work hard to eradicate criminals and ensure that crime in Gauteng is squeezed to zero.
More arrests on the cases are expected as the police continue with further investigations.
