Riaan Barnard (52) was shot dead on Tuesday night 14 January 2020, at about 21:00 whilst sitting on a veranda at his house in Germiston. He was surprised by two robbers who, in cold blood, just shot him dead.
His life partner, Esme Swanepoel (49) who was in the bedroom at the time, just heard Riaan shout “no” and then she heard the shot.
The 2 attackers, black males, then went into the house where they pointed Esme with a gun before they fled with a tablet that Riaan had with him, a cell phone and a TV.
Esme found Riaan outside with a gunshot wound in the stomach. He was taken to the Unie hospital in Alberton where he succumbed to his wound at 01:00 the following morning.
Police were on the scene but no arrest have been made.
