Home invasion: Man shot twice, returns fire, 2 arrested, Vanderbiljpark

A man from Vanderbiljpark, Ian Coetzee (44), was shot twice on Thursday 17 June 2021 when he courageously rushed to help his neighbours who were being attacked by house robbers.

Mr Coetzee began the local Community Police Forum in 2015 after he and his family were also the victim of house robbers where their eldest son was almost strangled to death in that incident.

The attackers were wearing masks and reflective vests of the kind the Police wear.

The neighbour knocked on Ian’s door just after 11:00 and said that the attackers are keeping his wife at gunpoint and robbing them. Ian reacted with his firearm in hand and shot back when he was shot at by the robbers.

Ian just proved again why only citizens with a firearm can defend themselves against heavily armed criminals.

Although Ian was shot twice, once through the leg and once through the stomach, he kept firing until they fled in a white Mercedes Benz GLA 200D.

The Police managed to arrest the two suspects after a chase. The Police also found the stolen items in the car.
