Three police officers are due to appear at the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court today, 11 June 2018, following their arrest on charges of hijacking, kidnapping and armed robbery of a truck driver and his escort in Rustenburg Road, Krugersdorp West on Saturday, 9 June 2018 at midday.

They were arrested and detained at Krugersdorp police.

It is alleged that the police officers from the Germiston Flying Squad stopped a truck and an escort vehicle along the Rustenburg Road. The driver of an escort vehicle, 1400 van, was forced out of his vehicle and ordered into a police vehicle. One of the police officer also jumped into the truck and forced the driver to sit on the passenger seat.

The victims were driven into an open veld and forced to lie on the ground whilst being pointed with firearms. They were also robbed of a substantial amount of money before the officers drove away.

After a case was reported, information was followed up and the police officers were arrested. A truck and a bakkie were later recovered.

Communities are urged to take every possible steps in reporting corrupt members and those involved in criminal acts. The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has ordered a full and thorough investigation into the activities of these arrested police officers.

“Taking action against bad elements in the service must be seen as a commitment by management to work towards a better police service”, says the Provincial Commissioner.
