A hijacking in progress was put to a halt when a brave hero intervened. Suspects in a black vehicle pulled up to a silver bakkie at Springs Mall and parked next to it at an abnormally close distance and awkward angle with the intentions of hijacking the bakkie.

Other drivers carried on driving in and out of the parking lot and pedestrians continued to walk through the parking bays. To the average citizen in the parking lot going about their own days, nothing seemed too suspicious at this stage.

After some time a man emerged from the driver’s seat of the black vehicle and managed to open the driver’s door of the silver bakkie that the suspects planned on stealing.

While the suspect was getting out of the black vehicle and into the silver one, a civilian walking through the parking lot saw the incident occur and quickened his pace when passing the vehicles, potentially to call for help. Once the suspect was in the silver bakkie he proceeded to reverse out of the parking bay, almost knocking a pedestrian over during the process.

Suddenly, a man ran towards the commotion along with a trolley and charged straight towards the silver bakkie.

When the accomplice in the black vehicle saw the man running towards the scene, the suspect started reversing the car to block the civilian from getting any closer to the hijacking in progress. As soon as the accomplice in the silver bakkie noticed a man running towards him, he retaliated from the crime and jumped out of the bakkie in a panic.

One of the suspects quickly grabbed an item out of the bakkie before entering the black vehicle that he, as well as his accomplice, originally arrived in before hitting into a trolley and driving away.
