A 28-year-old man has been arrested for raping a 11-year-old mentally challenged girl at a block of flats, Johannesburg Central police said on Thursday.
According to police, the incident took place at Dell Mansion Court on the corner of De Villiers and Claim streets at around 7pm on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbhele said the suspect, who normally helps the mother of the victim by carrying her buckets when she boards a taxi, allegedly raped the girl.
Mbhele said: “The cousin of the victim found the suspect on top of the victim.”
The suspect allegedly threatened to beat the victim if she told anyone what had happened.
“The investigation is still underway and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court,” Mbhele said.
