A brutal farm attack took place on 8 October 2018 at 19:20 on the 1 Brandsfarm, Waterpan, Westonaria in Gauteng. Hans Goosen a man in his early 50s and his family were surprised by five attackers each armed with a 9mm pistol, of which four wore balaclavas.
They were attacked when he returned home from work. His wife in her late 40s and their daughter 25 were wondering why the dogs were restless prior to the attack. He was taken from his car, into the house where he and his family were tied up with their own rope. The attackers burnt the top of one ear of each of their victims with a hot iron.
One of the attackers who had his face covered, appeared to be familiar to the family and ensured that they were not killed. The family has been seriously traumatised.
The attack endured for about 3 hours and the attackers robbed them of firearms, cell phones, household goods and fled the scene in the families vehicle. The family managed to untie themselves and then walk 2,5 km to the neighbouring farm for help.
