The Hawks’ Tactical Operational Management Section conducted an intelligence driven operation on 28 September 2021, after a report of an armed robbery incident at a shopping mall in Motsa township at KwaMhlanga.

Three men were apprehended and will appear in court soon.

The team of Hawks together with Crime Intelligence Unit along with other security agencies intercepted the suspects who were driving in two getaway vehicles at the corners of Solomon Mahlangu and Zambezi Drive where the suspects fired several shots at police.

The suspects in a VW Polo lost control of the vehicle and crashed. The suspects managed to evade arrest while three suspects in a minibus taxi were arrested.

Two firearms, a signal jammer, cash and cellphones that were allegedly stolen during the robbery were recovered. The getaway vehicles were impounded for further investigation.

The suspects will be charged with armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.

The VW Polo was also positively linked to last week’s robbery at a business premises in Valhalla.
