Young Boy Scout Tristin Smyth 12 years old, went missing whilst on a hike near the Tonquani Kloof Hekpoort Magaliesberg Gauteng after 14h00 on 15 Oct 2016. After a dip in a natural rock pool, the hiking group returned to the camp, he was not with the group on their return. He was last seen only wearing a black swimming costume. The search started yesterday and intensified on 16 October 2016. Tristin tried to navigate his way back to camp, but headed north rather than south. He walked through the night, endured a hail storm among other.

Numerous organizations were involved in the search. SAPS, Oostermoed, Mountain Rescue Club SA, local residents, and Conserv Members participated. Conserv endeavoured to help coordinate and communicate with all on the ground. Staying in contact with Tristin’s parents at 10:30 the best news ever was received – Tristin had been found close to Buffelspoort Dam 20 hours later in a field by a farmer 25 kilometers from the rock pool, a little shaken, dehydrated but fine.

Well Done to All for their help and enthusiasm! I am sure Tristin has some real good ‘war stories’ to tell his mates tomorrow, including being flown back to safety by chopper.
