Great concern about ill-equipped and under trained police

The FF Plus in Gauteng is concerned by the large number of police deaths in the province and believes that many of these deaths could have been prevented if officers were properly equipped and trained.

A total of 15 police officers, 11 of whom were on duty, have died over the last year.

Over the last few months, the FF Plus visited various police stations in Gauteng and the majority experienced the same problems that ranged from a shortage of vehicles and ammunition to a lack of manpower and inadequate equipment.

These problems and shortcomings are frequently the topic of discussion in provincial committee meetings, but there seems to be a lack of interest which limits the police service’s ability to function properly.

The FF Plus aims to submit a comprehensive report to the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, in the near future.

The party will also put pressure on the government to ensure that police officers are properly equipped to not only serve and protect the community, but also to keep them out of harm’s way.
