Centurion resident Gert Vermeulen, who built bicycles for the needy, was shot and killed whilst on a cycle outing, his bicycle was then robbed. Basically the man was murdered for a bicycle.

A regular cyclist, Gert Vermeulen (57) of Centurion, was shot and killed when he and two other cyclists were attacked by a group of robbers on Saturday morning 16 October 2021, at around 08:00.

The incident happened on a cycling route next to Olievenhoutbosch, an informal settlement otherwise called a squatter camp next to Centurion.

While the cyclists were on the route they were attacked by a group of five black men who shot Mr Vermeulen and took his bicycle.

Mr Vermeulen was a good Samaritan who belonged to a Christian organization called Believers on motorbikes (BOMB) that built bicycles for people around the area who might need it.

The Police has confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder but no arrest has been made.

The slow black-on-white war continues in South-Africa.
