The Gautrain has been partly crippled for a few days with only partial services available as a result of a strike by staff who have demands far above the inflation rate.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that the Gautrain management company, Bombela, has to explain why they told the United National Transport Union (Untu) that Gautrain’s profits went to a French company. These allegations have now been made by Untu in the media.

FF Plus says they sees this assertion as extremely disturbing and shocking and Bombela has to explain why the profits are allegedly being sent out the country and why it is not channeled back to Bombela.

The Gautrain Management Agency annually receives a substantial amount of money from Gauteng provincial government to perform its operations and services. This entity received 25% of Gauteng’s Department of Transport’s total budget of R7,6 billion for the 2018/19 financial year. This amounts to about R2 billion.

The Gauteng Department can not afford to lose money given to Gautrain annually. With the department’s current budget of R7,6 billion, they can not even repair roads and potholes nor can they build or maintain new roads, says FF Plus.
