As police crime prevention operations are continuing, forty five suspects were arrested on 12 June 2019, and seven unlicensed firearms seized in Brakpan, Katlehong, Bryanston, Katlehong, Edenvale and Vanderbijlpark. Five of these suspects arrested at the Carnival Mall are being questioned as they are suspected to be linked to bank following incidents in Ekurhuleni.

Other thirty two undocumented people were arrested in Pretoria North during “Operation Okae Molao” and might face deportation after they have been processed by the Department of Home Affairs.

In Brakpan, police responded to a complaint at the Carnival Mall where a group of five men were suspected to be scouting for victim(s) drawing money at the bank. The suspects were confronted and their vehicle, a VW Polo, was searched. Two semi-automatic unlicensed pistols with ammunition were found inside the vehicle. The suspects were immediately arrested for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. More charges relating to a conspiracy to commit an armed robbery are being investigated as police will also be looking at the footages of the Mall.

In Bryanston, five suspects were also arrested following a shootout with members of the Johannesburg Metro Police and security guards. The suspects were followed after they had robbed a vehicle (VW) at a dealership in Melrose. They were cornered at William Nicol where one of the suspects was shot and wounded.

An unlicensed firearm and a Range Rover vehicle stolen at Linden were seized. The suspects will be charged with armed robbery, attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm as well as a stolen vehicle. Police are still looking for one of the suspect who disappeared with a stolen vehicle. They are due to appear at the Randburg Magistrate Court.

Other suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen properties in Akasia, Katlehong, Edenvale and Vanderbijlpark. They are also due to appear in court.
