The Gauteng Highway Patrol members, through intelligence information, continue to make a positive impact in the fight against crime.

On 21 January 2022, the members with the assistance of EMPD Swat unit followed on intelligence information about suspects driving on the N3 with the intention to attack one of the Taxi owners in Vosloorus.

The N3 road was monitored and the vehicle fitting the description was spotted and tactically stopped and searched. Three men were found inside. An unlicensed firearm with a filled off serial number and ammunition were seized by the police.

All three were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In another incident, the Gauteng Highway Patrol members operationalised intelligence driven information about a courier vehicle that was robbed at gun point around Evaton.

The information led the members to a certain house in Xavier Estate.

Two suspects were arrested and some of the robbed items were found on the premises and the vehicle, believed to have been used during the commission of the crime was also found. A firearm without a serial number and seven rounds of ammunition were also seized.

Both suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of stolen goods.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has applauded the members for their continuous commitment and efforts in fighting crime.
