Suppliers and contractors who have done work for the Gauteng health department are struggling to receive their rightful payments.
Those who owe less than R5 million will not receive payments until late April, while larger suppliers will be paid over a period of three years.
Treasury, and normal business practices, stipulate that all accounts must be paid within 30 days.
No supplier can wait a long time for payment of services rendered. This practice indicates that the department is in such serious financial difficulties that they are essentially bankrupt. Now more than R40 million has to be paid to the victims of the Life Esidimeni events.
